According to Holcomb and Smith’s book “Deaf Eyes on Interpreting” the perspective of the Deaf consumer of interpreting services can often be unknown to the Interpreter trying diligently to provide services. Other perspectives, as well as, issues of power, privilege and oppression come into play. How so? How can we identify the changes we individually need to make as we strive for inclusion?
Learning Objectives: Participants will utilize group discussion to address these critical concerns within our profession. With open minds and self-evaluation, the group will discuss the book striving to broaden their own and each others perspectives, in a safe and supportive environment. Thereafter understanding the application of these newly learned perspectives to their work. (Reading the book prior to each discussion is required).
